"The Process to Exclude
Property From Public Area Wide Pesticide Applications"
according to Massachusetts State
Regulation 333 CMR:13:04
To exclude your property, residents must send a letter to the town or
city clerk postmarked by March 1st of each year. Ideally, the letter
would be certified but that isn't necessary. According to the Mosquito
Control offices, you can request to be bypassed at any time and they
will honor your wishes as long as you clearly mark the boundaries of
your property.
The letter should specify:
· your name, address, telephone number,
· the names of all abutters (neighbors),
· and the spray program for which the exclusion is requested (public
spraying for mosquitoes)
In addition the boundaries of the property must be
marked every 50' by tin pie plates or other appropriate means.
Questions regarding the regulation can be
answered by calling the Massachusetts Pesticide
Bureau at (617) 626-1786. Questions on pesticide
applications by the Suffolk County Mosquito Control
Project can be answered by calling (617) 361-0550, or in East
Middlesex at (781) 899-5730.

The MA PARTNERSHIP FOR SAFE MOSQUITO MANAGEMENT is an emaling list
organized by individuals around the state concerned about
pesticides as a children's health and community pollution issue.
The 'elist' facilitates
information sharing about the hazards of the synthetic pyrethroids and
the other pesticide products used for mosquito control. Join the
Partnership to receive information about the West Nile Virus and to
learn about opportunities to get involved in public decisions that
will affect us all. Send announcements, resources, questions and
comments to erg_hk@juno.com
